Comorbid symptoms of autism are the additional disorders that coexist and contribute to the more commonly known physiological, neurological, and emotional indicators such as issues of the immune system, neurological impairment, speech, sleep, lack of focus, hormone imbalances, mood swings, leaky gut, chronic fatigue, and much more.
The most prominent comorbid symptoms of autism are notably Lyme, parasites, PANS/PANDAS or Streptococcal infections, and mold toxicity. Mold biotoxins create illnesses and sub-infections such as chronic inflammatory response syndrome (CIRS), Staphylococcus infections such as MARCoNS, (Multiple Antibiotic Resistant Coagulase Negative Staphylococci), which is an antibiotic resistant staph that resides deep in the nasal passages.
All of these comorbid issues must be addressed properly for optimum recovery. Many parents wonder why their child is not getting better when they work with so many of the other issues of autism including the gut dysbiosis, toxicity, and behavioral therapies. When these treatments (if done properly) do not work then it is crucial to address the comorbid symptoms.
Importantly, children with autism need to avoid antibiotics whenever possible due to the additional health problems they create in the gut and therefore, the brain. Treating these comorbid symptoms naturally, without antibiotics is recently getting more traction because it is working. This is especially important in the many cases where antibiotics are not working.
