Integrative/Alternative Medical Doctors
Integrative medical doctors are western medical doctors. The difference between western medical doctors and integrative medical doctors is that the integrative medical doctors have been trained in multiple proven therapies of both conventional medical applications and alternative medical treatments. The combination of integrative medicine and western medicine allows the doctor to operate from a broader perspective. A doctor who excels in both types of medicine can treat the individual as a whole, making use of his or her knowledge of natural, drug-free treatment sources. In addition, an integrative medical doctor generally works from the philosophy of healing the causes, not the symptoms.
Types of medicine employed by integrative medical physicians include:
- Western medicine
- Allopathic medicine
- Osteopathic medicine
- Regenerative medicine
- Holistic medicine
- Naturopathic medicine
- Functional medicine
To find a medical doctor who focuses on the complimentary, alternative, and integrative body as a whole, see the websites below.
How do I find a practitioner that offers alternative resources?
Integrative medicine practitioners are scattered across the country. You can find doctors in your area through the websites of the following professional organizations:
- American Academy of Osteopathy (AAO)
- The Cranial Academy
- American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM)
- American Academy for the Advancement of Medicine (ACAM)
- International College of Integrative Medicine (ICIM)
- Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM)
- American Holistic Medical Association (AHMA)
- American Board of Holistic Integrative Medicine (www.abihm.org)
- Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine (www.aihm.org)
Naturopathic Doctors
Naturopathic doctors are not medical doctors; they are primary care doctors. They combine modern science with nature. These doctors’ protocols work to assist the body to move back into a natural state of health through its own innate abilities. A licensed naturopathic physician attends a four-year, graduate-level medical school studying all of the same basic sciences as an M.D., but has additional training in holistic and non-toxic therapies focusing on prevention. Training includes study in homeopathy, botanical medicine, nutrition, and psychology.

ORTHOMOLECULAR MEDICINE
First theorized by double Nobel laureate Linus Paling, orthomolecular medicine is based on restoring the entire biochemical make-up specific to an individual using natural sources such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids, trace elements and fatty acids to restore optimum health. The distinctive differences of molecular medicine lie in its focus on genetic factors and how they affect all biochemical aspects specific to the individual. For more information on orthomolecular societies internationally go to, www.orthomed.org.
Chiropractic with Muscle Response Testing
Many chiropractors who are proficient in muscle testing are also known as Contact Reflex Analysis (CRA) doctors. Other types of chiropractors who also use muscle testing are Applied Kinesiology (AK) doctors. I would suggest finding a chiropractor who is skilled with this technique, as it offers a far more comprehensive approach. It encourages seeing the body as a whole, rather than just looking at the places that hurt on the body.
Assessment through muscle response testing determines if an issue is caused by a chemical, structural, emotional, nutritional, or neurological imbalance.
Once this is determined, the practitioner will be able to assist in the protocol necessary to heal the body. Doctors are often well educated in nutritional analysis and can be of great assistance when this is indicated during the assessment.
To find a practitioner skilled in CRA near you call (616) 669-5534, or go to www.crawellness.com. CRA Wellness also has a phenomenal line of nutritional supplements available at www.vervita.com. For an AK doctor see www.appliedkinesiology.com.
Homeopathic Doctors
Homeopathy is based on the Law of Similars. This law states that “a disease can be cured by a substance if that substance can cause, in a healthy person, symptoms similar to those of the disease.” The word homeopathy comes from homeo meaning similar and pathy meaning suffering.
A homeopathic remedy should help the body do what it needs to do. It is used to inspire the vital force. Homeopathy works by recognizing the weakness in the body that has already occurred and the symptoms that are already present.
A “constitutional” remedy takes in both mental and physical components. The homeopathic doctor will take into account every aspect of the human being. The emotional and physical components are accounted for in order to help understand the larger picture of a person’s distress. Treatment is determined, generally, by matching symptoms. Homeopaths also take into account what is unusual about an individual’s pattern. Remedies are specific to each individual.

Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral therapy is a very gentle, yet effective, form of bodywork. Using the most noninvasive touch possible, about the weight of a nickel, the educated practitioner is able to gain knowledge regarding the health of the cranial system (the skeletal system responsible for protecting and influencing your brain and spinal cord). With this gentle touch, a craniosacral therapist is able to assist the bones back into balance and alleviate symptoms.
Some common physical symptoms of cranial bone imbalance are headaches, migraines, earaches and infections, neck pain, balance issues, digestive imbalance, hormonal imbalance, anxiety, hyperactivity, depression, obsessive compulsive disorders, speech difficulty, lack of ability to focus, social withdrawal or social disconnection.
To find an educated craniosacral practitioner contact either, www.milneinstitute.com, or www.upledger.com.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Chambers
Hyperbaric chambers have an incredibly high effectiveness rate with autism. The study by Dr. Daniel Rossignol out of the University of Virginia showed marked improvements ranging from 50 percent improvement up to 93 percent improvement in symptoms such as verbal skills, non-provoked outbursts, aloof and withdrawn behavior, tantrums, eye contact, poor response to usual teaching methods, sustained odd play, hyperactivity, hearing impairment, aggressive/self-injurious behavior, imitative or repetitive behavior, apparent over-sensitivity or under-sensitivity to sounds, tastes, smells, fear or pain. You can read the full study here.
However, hyperbaric chambers are not at all the same. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) used in hard-sided chambers is 100% oxygen. Hyperbaric air therapy (HBAT) uses air. Soft-sided models use HBAT, and cannot reach the necessary pressures above 1.3 ATA (normal atmospheric pressure) needed to produce enough therapeutic oxygen.
Also, when used ineffectively, hyperbaric chambers can make symptoms worse. Read the details in this article: HBAT vs. HBOT-What’s The Difference, by Laura Betts.
Based on that research, I would highly suggest that you never use soft-sided models. When you call any hyperbaric treatment facility be sure to inquire what type of models they use, and do not accept their assurances about the soft-sided models. The soft-sided hyperbaric chambers will cost a lot of money, but they will not work, and in fact, might do more harm than good.
For additional information please visit, the website of the Hyperbaric Medical Association. The IHMA is a non-profit that has been directly responsible for the clearance of additional insurance reimbursable conditions. (They do not push HBAT.)
Neurofeedback
Neurofeedback is a gentle, noninvasive way to improve brain regulation. It treats supposed life-long problems such as migraines, epilepsy, and autism. It does this without the use of drugs or negative side effects.
The patient sits in front of a computer screen. An educated practitioner chooses the software depending on the patient’s symptoms. The computer screen looks like a game. It is very similar to the old Pac-Man game in which a little creature goes up and down the screen eating things.
A thin wire with a dime-sized cup on the end is fastened to the scalp with conducting paste. These sensors pick up the brain waves and transmit them to the computer. The computer picks up your brain’s activity and gives instant feedback.
Some of the issues that neurofeedback can help with are autism, anxiety, depression, addictions, ADD/ADHD, sleep problems, stress reduction, learning disabilities, and emotional instabilities.
For more information on Neurofeedback and to find a practitioner near you visit these websites: www.eegspectrum.com, or www.isnr.org/nfbarch/nbiblio.htm.
Indigo Biofeedback
Indigo is a unique form of biofeedback. Clinical studies show that Indigo’s proprietary algorithmic formulas improve the body’s ability to adapt to stressors. It retrains both physiological and emotional aspects and shifts the body’s energetic response.
Indigo biofeedback measures over 11,000 frequencies through electrical-impulse-skin-response via straps attached to the wrists, ankles, and forehead. Within five minutes it can detect and record the electrical activity of the body, show where there are weaknesses, and provide overall information about the client’s health. Resonant frequencies are used on the system as homeopathic, nutritional, and other natural health remedies would be. Biofeedback is used for everything from pain, anxiety, depression and asthma, to digestive disorders and parasitic infections.
These machines can be purchased for your own use, but they are expensive. Most people seek a qualified practitioner. Be sure to ask practitioners where or how they were trained and how long they have been practicing so you understand their level of experience. For a worldwide listing of Indigo biofeedback practitioners go to www.practitioners.thequantumalliance.com.

Hi there,
Yes, Revitin is a very good product and it is fluoride free too, (which is great).
