5 healthy foods groups:
1. Good Fats
Good fats to eat include olive oil, avocados, coconut meat and oil, and other nuts (but not peanuts!).
2. Animal Protein
The best animal protein includes organic and grass fed meat, poultry, fish and eggs. Accompany the meats you eat with good fats and green leafy vegetables for greater benefit.
3. Natural Carbohydrates
Natural carbohydrates are found in vegetables and all nuts except peanuts and pistachios. Almonds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and Brazil nuts are best. Gluten-free oatmeal, oat bran, and brown rice have healthy natural carbohydrates, as do navy beans, string beans, lima beans, and lentils. Limit your quantity of beans at first due to starch content, and do not eat processed beans, as they contain a lot of sugar.
Fruit should be eaten in small amounts due to sugar content (one half cup or one medium size piece of fruit per day). The darker the fruit, the more antioxidants it contains. Berries are best, as they also contain fiber which helps reduce the effect of the sugar on the body’s insulin levels.
5. Fermented Foods
Kambucha, kefir and fermented vegetables such as sauerkraut (fermented cabbage) are all good foods. They contain beneficial probiotics, digestive enzymes, and nutrients.
…and, of course, drink a lot of pure water, always!
