It is crazy how many different parasites and pathogens can be in the gut. Parasites are a worldwide problem. It has spread into the western world. It is estimated that eighty percent of the American population have parasites, and most do not know it.
Many children on the autism spectrum have parasitic problems. Most parasites live with us harmoniously, until the gut flora weakens to the point that they become a problem.
How Do We Get Parasites?
Common ways we get parasites are from inhaling them from the air we breathe, in the food we eat, drinking water, swimming in contaminated water, and through our skin. Lesions in the skin, especially on the feet, allow for easy entrance into the body. Animals carry different parasites that they may pass onto humans. Poor hygiene also plays a big role.
What Problems Do Parasites Cause?
The problems caused by parasites do not come so much from the bugs themselves but from the existing co-infections in the body. Parasites bring with them bacteria, viruses and fungi. Viruses in the nervous system often come from Staphylococcus and lungworm.
When parasites are present the immune system is even weaker and the child more susceptible to bacterial and viral infections. Leaky gut syndrome allows the parasites to enter the bloodstream and make their way to organs including the brain. Parasites often live inside the mucosa of the intestinal lining, but are capable of living outside of the intestines too.
Parasites dysregulate the immune system. Do not ever boost the immune system in someone with autism due to immune over activity. We always strive to “regulate” or “modulate” the immune system and it will need to be balanced once the parasite protocol has been done.
Symptoms of Parasites
People may go decades without symptoms while parasites feed on them. They are many of the same symptoms of those with food allergies or leaky gut. It is also commonly seen in malnourished children as a failure to thrive.
Symptoms to look for with parasitic infections are:
- #1 symptom: Chronic constipation
- Diarrhea (commonly from giardia)
- Intestinal discomfort
- Dark circles under the eyes
- Itchy skin
- Skin rashes
- Anger and ‘crazy-type’ behaviors
- Depression and Suicidal Behavior
- Brain fog/ability to learn
- Chronic fatigue
- Sinus problems
- Respiratory Issues
- Nail biting
- Teeth grinding
- Hair pulling
- Immune system dysregulation
- Iron deficiency
- Personality type in Women-overly trusting and cooperative, even when the person or situation would be seen as dangerous to others.
- Personality type in Men: extreme risk takers.
- Hard spots in the abdomen: Massage the abdomen in a clockwise motion around the belly button. You’re looking for hard spots, especially in the upper GI where the stomach is. Parasites like to hang out there and get the nutrition from the food coming in before the body can use it.
- Parasites particularly like the B vitamins, sugar and (tyrosine). These things will be craved by the host. Avoid them.
- Hungry all the time. The parasites eat the nutrition from the food he eats so his body will be hungry because it’s craving nutrition it’s not getting.
The mouthing by itself is often a symptom of low nutrition because the parasites are eating the nutrition from the food we eat.
Conventional methods of eradicating parasites are short term, at best. This is due to traditionally used antibiotics, such as flagyl, only killing some of the adult parasites. The eggs that have been laid will eventually hatch and the infestation returns. When you initially feel better and the tests all come up negative it misleads you to believe you are clear. Treating the parasites alone will not treat the cause of the whole problem.
We are all exposed to parasites on a regular basis. The question arises as to why some contract parasitic infections where others do not? The main reason why parasites are not eradicated is due to a weakened intestinal tract, an overly acidic diet, and a congested liver. Toxins in the blood and lymphatic system become absorbed by the body. This allows for parasites which are passing through to harbor and create infection.
In order for parasitic infections to be cleared the liver must be cleansed and the intestinal tract must be healthy. A continued diet follows that is rich in alkaline foods to help prevent lingering infections.
Stay on top of these parasites. They lay eggs and are cyclic so it is to be worked with ongoing. When the eggs hatch you want to be sure they do not get a chance to grow and do harm again.
Keep well-hydrated with pure water (no tap water that is not properly filtered). If you don’t have a good water filter then I suggest the Aquatru. It is one of the best. You can learn more about it and get the link, plus a discount code, along with podcast #87, Water Resources and Autism.
Testing and treatment for parasites
It is optional to test for parasites. Note that even when a stool test comes up negative for the parasites, they may actually exist but the test did not pick them up. It is your choice to test or not. I personally prefer to go by symptoms.
If you choose to test, one of the better tests for parasites is the Doctors Data Comprehensive Stool Analysis w/Parasitology x3 (Parasite stool test-3 day).
Parasites are most active during a full moon so try to test (and treat) during them. Note that these tests are not always accurate. If you choose to do the test and it comes up negative, it is still suggested to eradicate them. In my membership program we use organic proprietary herbal formulas for the coinfections of autism such as mold, Lyme, PANS, and parasites.
The parasite protocol will also assist in fighting Lyme. It is important to be aware that Lyme lives inside of parasites so working with both together is important.
I am not able to offer these formulas to anyone outside of the program for multiple reasons including the necessity of liver and diet support along with the knowledge to use them.
I do wish to help you now so please begin with the right diet to begin reducing inflammation, and toxins that contribute to leaky gut and continue to allow these parasites to pass into the bloodstream. Some of your child’s behaviors (see symptoms) could be due to these issues and it needs to be taken care of.
You should also utilize these resources and eradication for anyone in your household since we spread infections around to one another.
