How Do We Get Aluminum Exposure?
Aluminum is prevalent in our society in the air, soil/food, water, cookware, and in the health care products most people use daily such as deodorants, fragrances, lotions, make-up, and so much more.
It is contained in antacids, over the counter supplements, and medications. Aluminum-based adjuvants are also used in the immunotherapy of allergic conditions. Almost 75% of all adjuvant-based treatments include aluminum salts.

Aluminum, a corrosion-resistant metal, has light weight and density, high electrical and thermal conductivity, and high ductility and is easily deformable.
For this reason, it is used in aerospace industries, transportation industries, packaging and food industries, building and construction, electrical industries, a wide range of home household and appliances, machinery and equipment, and monetary currency like aluminum coins.
What Are The Health Risks of Aluminum Exposure?
Approximately 60% of the body’s aluminum is stored in the bones, 25% in the lung, 10% in the muscle, 3% in the liver, and 1% in the brain. Inside the cells, aluminum is stored in the lysosomes of brain neurons, liver, spleen, myocytes of the heart, smooth muscle cells, epithelial cells of the kidneys, and mitochondria of osteoblasts. Aluminum also causes permeability of the mitochondria membrane (the cell’s energy source).
In general, ROS and oxidative stress disturb cellular signaling and neurotransmission and result in cytotoxicity. The consequence of this process is neural damage, neurodegeneration, and death of neural cells.
Experimental studies suggest the neurotoxic effects of aluminum compounds due to the generation of ROS and free radicals. (ROS) Regulation of Reactive Oxygen Species Generation in Cell Signaling
Thyroid conditions are seen to develop, as aluminum prevents the release and synthesis of parathyroid hormone (PTH), as well as respiratory conditions, high concentrations of aluminum caused the precipitation of mucin (mucus), disruption of protein synthesis, and gene expression, including DNA.
Brain gene transcription in the presence of aluminum leads to a deficiency of genetic information, immunological signals, and destruction of DNA in the mammalian brain. Aluminum salts may bind to DNA and RNA and prevent their formation.
More than 95% of aluminum is excreted through the kidney. The excretion process may last between a few hours, a few days, and even a few years. The accumulation of aluminum in the kidney causes glomerular filtration failure and damages tubular kidney cells, leading to nephrotoxicity or impaired renal function.
Aluminum causes destructive changes in the liver cells. This enhances proinflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α to 7 times the normal amounts.
The Neurological Effects of Aluminum on the Human Brain
When aluminum loading occurs, aluminum gradually accumulates in human neurons, making them vulnerable. Studies have suggested that even small amounts of aluminum in the brain may alter iron homeostasis in the brain, causing neurodegenerative disorders.
Aluminum can cause accumulation of amyloid β plaques in the brain, tau protein, and degeneration of neurofibrillary tangles in neurons.
Neurological manifestations of aluminum poisoning include:
memory loss,
tremor,
jerking movements,
diminished coordination,
weakness in motor movements,
lack of curiosity,
ataxia,
speech disturbances (dyspraxia, dysphasia, stuttering, and more),
myoclonic jerks,
and generalized convulsions
Aluminum’s causal changes in behavior and consciousness levels such as:
agitation,
confusion,
myoclonic jerk,
grand mal seizures,
obtundation,
coma,

Professor Christopher Exley PhD FRSB is a biologist who has been researching ‘aluminum and life’ for over thirty-six years. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed scientific papers and has earned the nickname from his peers of, “Mr Aluminum”.
One of Dr. Christopher Exley’s Studies Involving Autism
Multiple studies show elevated levels of aluminum in the brain are linked to Autism, as well as early onset Alzheimers. Yet, it is said that aluminum is also the greatest untold story of science.
Autism has genetic factors but it is also largely due to environmental toxins. Genes must be affected by something harmful to disrupt them.
There are many toxic metals including mercury, lead, cadmium, and aluminum which are toxic to the brain, body and its organs.
A study done through “The Journal of Trace Elements In Biology, “Aluminum In Brain Tissue In Autism” by authors Matthew Mold, Dorcas Umar, Andrew King, Christopher Exley.
The study shows “The aluminum content of brain tissue in autism was consistently high with some of the highest values for aluminum in human brain tissue yet recorded.
Deposits of aluminum were significantly more prevalent in males (129 in 7 individuals) than females (21 in 3 individuals). Aluminum-loaded mononuclear white blood cells, probably lymphocytes, were identified in the meninges and possibly in the process of entering brain tissue from the lymphatic system. Aluminum could be clearly seen inside cells.
In Summary
Aluminum toxicity has immense health risks even at low levels. It causes physiological and neurological damage and death of neural cells. No levels are safe.
Children with autism are known to have many of these symptoms and should be detoxified safely and effectively, as well as assuring the daily exposure is minimal.
Eating organic, using household products including cookware, cleaning agents and health and beauty products that are aluminum free is crucial.
Silica is one of the best ways to naturally excrete aluminum from the body.

Get Your Free Food Guide!
Quickly Reduce Your Child’s Symptoms of Autism by Eliminating 7 Foods Most People Consume Daily!
The first crucial step of autism recovery is to begin restoring health to the gut and the immune system.
The health of the gut is directly linked to the health of the brain and therefore to the symptoms of autism. In fact, 80% of the immune system comes from the gut so if the gut is not healthy, then the brain can’t thrive, and the immune system is compromised. It’s a vicious cycle, but thankfully, it’s one that we can put an end to by first eliminating harmful foods.
- Harmful Foods: Identify the foods that worsen autism symptoms and understand the science behind their impact.
- Smart Food Choices: Learn about easy dietary swaps that can significantly enhance sleep, clarity of thought, and emotional well-being.
- Practical Implementation: Get valuable tips on how to implement these dietary changes easily and effectively.
