Hypoglycemia is a condition that comes from low blood sugar or low glucose levels. Behavioral outbursts, anxiety, and lack of ability to think clearly can be the result of the brain being starved of its energy supply.
When it has been too long since our last meal or snack, our blood sugar drops and our brain cannot function properly. If we eat too many sugars and refined carbohydrates, our body responds by releasing large amounts of the hormone insulin to counteract the effects of all of the sugar. This is especially hard on the liver and can cause it to become congested. The liver is our main organ of detoxification. Children with autism already have issues with this which can create further physical and behavioral problems.
Hypoglycemia or low blood sugar can trigger many unhealthy reactions in our bodies. Excess insulin secretion can contribute to many severe disorders including allergies, asthma, alcoholism, cancer, heart disease, chronic fatigue, depression, diabetes, Alzheimer’s and more. Parasites and leaky gut can contribute to hypoglycemia or low blood sugar. This is just one more reason to eradicate any parasites and heal the gut.
Hypoglycemia causes stress on the body, which reacts by triggering the adrenal gland to release the stress hormone cortisol. As cortisol levels rise, stress is registered in the brain. Insomnia can be associated with this at night, as your body begins to have more trouble going longer periods of time without food to keep the blood sugar balanced.
The way to restore blood sugar balance is to eat. The best choice would be a healthy snack or meal that includes protein and plant-based carbohydrates. Complex, or plant-based, carbohydrates such as vegetables and fruit that do not affect your body in the same way as refined carbohydrates such as sugar, pasta, cookies, and crackers do. Remember that all grains are carbohydrates which means they break down in your body to become sugars. Wheat breaks down into sugar faster than other grains, and it is highly inflammatory. Inflammation is at the core cause of almost every disease. Also, too much fruit can give the same response as sugar so it should be eaten in limited quantities.
Some symptoms associated with low blood sugar are:
- Hyperactivity
- Anxiety
- Fatigue
- Irritability and anger
- Trouble sleeping and nightmares
- low cognitive function, confusion and inability to focus
- Headaches
- Digestive disturbance
- Visual issues
- Cardiovascular problems
- Nerve disruption
Supplements to help balance blood sugar:
- omega-3 fatty acids, especially DHA
- COQ10 or ubiquinol
- alpha lipoic acid
- chromium picolinate
- gamma linolenic acid (GLA)
- berberine
- cinnamon
- vitamin D
- peppermint
Candida Induced Hypoglycemia
Hypoglycemia is very hard on the adrenal glands. It is a challenge during the day, but also very hard on your system at night. During sleep, Candida feeds on your blood sugar causing candida induced hypoglycemia. This stresses the body and the brain and your glucose levels are lowered significantly. Your brain relies on the right amount of glucose to function properly. Therefore, this stress during sleep overworks the adrenal glands due to this imbalance in blood sugar. When the adrenals become fatigued it also creates an imbalance in your thyroid gland.
When cortisol release becomes deregulated by the adrenal glands, it can result in adrenal fatigue. The adrenals will often release too much Cortisol. A common symptom is waking in the night, usually around 3:00 a.m.
When blood sugar drops, it causes low glucose levels in the brain. Thus, the brain’s energy supply is low. This causes the brain to secrete toxins such as glutamate which can also contribute to seizures. The result is negative behavior and mis-wiring in the brain. This is especially disruptive when the brain is developing and also causes adrenal problems.
An imbalance of adrenal hormones can impair the body’s ability to grow and to recover from illness and injury. This imbalance also disrupts the body’s ability to build and utilize protein, or to perform what is known as protein synthesis.
Eat The Right Foods Before You Get Hungry
Eating before you get really hungry is the key to keeping blood sugar in balance. One idea is to carry almonds with you, so that you always have a healthy protein with fat source available. Eating some almonds before bed can help with candida induced hypoglycemia by helping to stabilize glucose levels during the night while you sleep.
Specific foods can either keep your brain healthy or destroy it, literally. The hormone insulin is the gatekeeper of glucose (blood sugar) entering the cells. Constant exposure to high levels of insulin due to a poor diet (one high in processed carbohydrates and sugar) causes the cells to become desensitized to insulin or insulin resistant. This causes the pancreas to think more is needed so it continues releasing it. High levels of sugar are now in the bloodstream which create diseases such as type 2 diabetes, nerve damage, heart disease, random infections, and Alzheimer’s. Insulin resistance triggers the plaques to form in the brain that lead to Alzheimer’s.
In 2005, studies were first released proposing Alzheimer’s as a third type of diabetes. More recently, the Australian National University in Canberra has released data from their study in the American journal Neurology telling us that those with higher blood sugar levels had a higher risk for brain shrinkage.
In studies of a science called epigenetics, it has been shown that your diet can change your DNA. We have been taught by inaccurate sources to eat a diet high in carbohydrates and low in fat. We know that the brain is made of 60 percent fat, and it must have fat (healthy fat) to keep it functioning at optimum and to stay healthy.
Always eliminate soda and limit juices, refined sugars, and carbohydrates. Reduce fructose in your diet, yes from fruit. Completely avoid high fructose corn syrup. Increase your intake of good fats from oils such as coconut, olive, and avocado. Get enough protein from whole food sources such as nuts, eggs, grass-fed meat, organic poultry, line caught fish, and raw or par-steamed vegetables (if raw are not tolerated by digestion). Avoid refined carbohydrates including grains in your diet.

Quickly Reduce Your Child’s Symptoms of Autism by Eliminating 7 Foods Most People Consume Daily!
The first crucial step of autism recovery is to begin restoring health to the gut and the immune system.
The health of the gut is directly linked to the health of the brain and therefore to the symptoms of autism. In fact, 80% of the immune system comes from the gut so if the gut is not healthy, then the brain can’t thrive, and the immune system is compromised. It’s a vicious cycle, but thankfully, it’s one that we can put an end to by first eliminating harmful foods.
- Harmful Foods: Identify the foods that worsen autism symptoms and understand the science behind their impact.
- Smart Food Choices: Learn about easy dietary swaps that can significantly enhance sleep, clarity of thought, and emotional well-being.
- Practical Implementation: Get valuable tips on how to implement these dietary changes easily and effectively.
